K. Michelle recently sat down to do this one-on-one with @bckybr of Houston Style Magazine. Check out what she has to say about getting discovered, working with R. Kelly, her upcoming album Pain Medicine and more.

With each note she sings, lyric she writes or piano key she strikes, songstress K. Michelle speaks her mind and makes no apologies for it. Staying true to self, K. Michelle acknowledges that part of being a noteworthy new artist isn’t just possessing talent, but having something to say through the music. Her debut album, “Pain Medicine”, which has will be released on Hitz Committee/Jive in summer 2011.

The Memphis, TN native attended Florida A& M University on scholarship where she was crowned a campus queen; she didn’t make music her focal point until she received her college degree. Upon graduation, door of opportunity opened for K. Michelle, including traveling abroad to Asia touring and singing with the Memphis orchestra, Sound Fuzion. K. Michelle’s other accomplishments include being a part of two national tours; having her debut album produced by the incomparable, R. Kelly Michelle is blessed to be a part of two national tours; her debut album produced by the incomparable R Kelly; two Billboard chart singles, and two mixtape releases.

To my surprise, I discovered that K. Michelle is not a one-dimensional artist; her vocal capabilities are not just R&B. She loves country music and to this day is known to yodel.
As a young girl, she became fascinated with country music because of her vocal coach—the same vocal coach of Memphis native and recording artist, Justin Timberlake.

I know she sang for the troops — she did that concert live — and I can still remember her with her yellow satin jumpsuit on. I knew every hand move, every breath, everything that she did through that whole show — I watched it over and over again. That also emphasized more that this is what I’m going to do.”
